Phase 4: The Carreolas = C- Channels

This particular tree house will be a blend of a traditional approach ie,  wood and current building practices ie, C-channel and styrofoam. The use of these two different traditions will give us a finished product that is extremely light and strong but with a rustic charm of a “bygone era”.  First comes the perimeter Now the upright carreolas are welded to the perimeter.

Phase 3: Leveling the Deck

More material must be transported from the Food Forest to the job site. Load must be adjusted before going up to the job site.  With additional material at the job site, the leveling of the deck goes forward. It is a Loooooong ways down!!! Phase 2: The Deck

Image
After completing the first portion of the substructure we returned to the Food Forest and collected many more poles of Amarillo. Amarillo is an extremely hard wood and perfectly suited for the deck. Many trips will be necessary because only a small number of logs can be transported in one trip. With great effort the crew precisely placed the poles on the substructure. We are creating a rustic feel in the tree house, as if it were taken from an adventure novel. The deck begins to take shape  With the help of a chainsaw all the poles are cut to exact dimensions. Some measurements needed A little siesta after a long day!

Phase 1 of Building

Before The farm flourished under 12 years of permaculture planting and had grown verdant. As with all things there is a positive and a negative side. Beautiful lush green foliage but not enough light. Remedy , some trees must be removed.  The Plan The Staircase The construction of the staircase made from caña india. This material "Caña india" is often used here in Latinamerica and is in the bamboo family. Foundation All of the supporting sub-structure is made of Macano. This wood is extremely dense and imprevious to insect damage. Another incredible feature of Macano, is after it has been planted in the soil it will produce roots and continue to live. But most importantly, it will only grow from where it was cut. This allows a super strong foundation and the critical measurements of the Y will remain unchanged.   “Orangutan” crawling down a 25 ft. The Journey

Chapter. I The Seed is Planted Six decades ago, a skinny ten-year-old boy, the youngest of an older group of guys, decided  that a "club house"was needed..There was talk of an underground fort and of course a tree house. A vote was taken and  the tree house was the overwhelming choice. So the group sets out collecting scraps of wood and other necessary items. In a couple of days of: splinters, bent nails and smashed thumbs a tree house takes shape. All were pleased but the youngest boy was particularly pleased , he had just watched Tarzan of the Apes.Of course, it was  in "black-and-white" as there was no color T.V. in 1957. Fast forward a couple of years and that same boy (a little less skinny) , is  front rowcenter at the Studio theater in San Bernardino California. Every seat is taken ,all are anxiously awaiting Walt Disney's new release, Swiss Family Robinson. At the conclusion of  a standing ovation, the lights slowly return . At that mo...

Actual view fromTree House Tribe !! Personal Security “Easy in Easy out” In times of emergencies the ability to “get into or out of” a situation is your most valuable asset. Tree House Tribe is fortunate to be located in an area that has multiple roads coming in and going out. Also it is within walking distance of the border between Panama and Costa Rica. Another factor that makes our location so special, is the Border Garrison located in our town. We enjoy the protection of these soldiers who patrol the border. When they are on my road, I often invite them in for coffee and thank them for their presence. Energy S...
